Multi-vendor sports equipment store with seller-funded reward points
For a US badminton equipment retailer, we set up a multi-vendor marketplace, integrated it with a premium theme and built a reward-points system that each seller can configure for their own products.
Results
- Seller registration confirmed working by the client after installation on their server
- Marketplace integrated with the client's premium theme, including mobile fixes
- Custom seller-configurable reward-points system delivered
- Reported issues with reward transactions, seller emails and plan upgrades resolved by July 2017
The challenge
A US badminton equipment retailer wanted to grow beyond its own catalogue by letting independent sellers list products in a shared store. That meant seller registration, seller storefronts, per-seller orders and notifications, all working inside a premium third-party theme the client had already bought.
The retailer also wanted a loyalty programme that suited a marketplace. Rather than a single store-wide scheme, each seller needed to decide how many points their own products or categories would earn, and customers needed to spend those points at checkout.
What we did
- Marketplace foundation. The client chose our own multi-seller extension for OpenCart. When seller registration failed on their server, we installed and configured it directly over SSH, and the client confirmed registration was working.
- Theme integration. We made the multi-seller pages compatible with the client's premium theme and its colour scheme, and fixed the responsive layout of the seller listings on mobile.
- Marketplace customisation. Sellers are shown by store name rather than personal name across the storefront, admin lists, orders and emails. We added an approval message after registration, a "Sell with us" link, and stock logic that handles products offered by several sellers.
- Seller-funded reward points. We built a custom points system where each seller sets points per product or category, as a fixed amount or a percentage. Customers apply points at cart or checkout up to a maximum limit, with points shown in order emails, customer reward history and seller history.
- Fixes and support. We resolved a seller order email template error, mail delivery via SMTP settings, seller category selection, checkout notices, seller transactions, reward-point transactions and the PayPal-based seller plan upgrade.
