TikTok is filled up with adult-dating frauds and fake reports, report says

TikTok could be the latest network that is social with scammers.

TikTok is well known for its 15-second quirky videos, but users must also be from the watch out for scammers in the network that is social.

Cybersecurity company Tenable circulated a report that is 50-page Wednesday that outlined three types of scams it entirely on TikTok that involved directing users to adult internet dating sites, impersonating popular users and boosting likes and followers.

“Given TikTok’s meteoric boost in appeal, it comes as no real surprise that scammers would get sucked in,” Tenable researcher Satnam Narang stated within the report. “thus far, these frauds seem to be in their infancy.”

In March, Narang began tracking scammers on TikTok, which exceeded 1 billion packages this current year. A TikTok spokeswoman said the company that is byteDance-owned pulled down most of the records mentioned in the report and hinges on a variety of technology and individual reports to quickly recognize records that violate its rules against defrauding or misleading users from the platform.

“TikTok has strict policies safeguarding users against fake, fraudulent or content that is misleading” a company spokeswoman said in a declaration. “We flag and remove most spam accounts before they are able to achieve users’ feeds, so we continuously enhance our defenses, even while harmful actors work to evade our safeguards.”

TikTok declined to express what amount of fake reports are from the platform or just how commonplace the scams outlined within the report are.
