Pet store pricing logic and a custom free-gift module for an agency
For a Bulgarian web agency, we delivered a fast run of customisations on its client's pet store: price ranges and option-based pricing, discount rules, an AJAX cart count and a custom per-product free-gift module.
Results
- Around fifteen separate customisations delivered between 1 and 4 July 2019
- Custom free-gift module delivered with admin and storefront fields; the agency called it an amazing job
- Agency praised the work during the project and kept adding new tasks
The challenge
A Bulgarian web agency was building out an online pet store for one of its clients and needed a development partner who could turn around a list of storefront and admin changes quickly. The store sold products with many options and price variations, used two third-party discount modules, and had a growing catalogue that made admin work slow.
The agency sent requirements in small batches, each needing a quick estimate and fast delivery, so the partner had to work at the agency's pace on its staging site.
What we did
- Pricing display. We changed how prices are shown for products with options, recalculating the price as options are chosen, and added a minimum–maximum price range to category, search, manufacturer and related-product listings. We also fixed a duplicate price bug.
- Brand presentation. We fixed product listings on manufacturer pages and prefixed the manufacturer name to product names in listings, page titles and breadcrumbs.
- Discount rules. We excluded a special-offers category from both discount modules so already-reduced products were not discounted twice.
- Custom free-gift module. We built a per-product free-gift feature from scratch. Admins set a gift name, image, description and start and end dates; the gift text and icon then appear on product, category, search, manufacturer and sidebar listings and in admin orders.
- Faster admin. The product form now loads and pre-selects filters from the chosen categories automatically.
- Storefront fixes. We added an AJAX update to the header cart count, fixed the contact form with custom fields, corrected a cart text bug and added an option-image fallback in listings.
