Pickup, delivery and multi-shop ordering rules for a restaurant webshop
For a French web reseller, we refined a restaurant's online ordering store with two shop locations: pickup versus home delivery, free-delivery alerts tied to a minimum order and a default shop on load.
Results
- Pickup and home-delivery alerts shown only when enabled, with free delivery linked to a minimum order
- Correct shop name displayed and a default shop selected on load
- Reseller confirmed everything was perfect before demonstrating the store to its customer
- Follow-on work on the same store built on minimum-order alerts we had added the previous year
The challenge
A French web reseller that builds online stores for restaurants and tour operators came back to us about a restaurant ordering site we had already worked on. The restaurant operates from two shop addresses and takes orders either for collection from a shop or for home delivery.
The ordering flow had to reflect how the restaurant actually works. Customers needed to see the right shop, pick between pickup and delivery, and understand when they qualified for free delivery. Several things were getting in the way: the wrong shop name was displayed in places, no shop was active when the page loaded, a discount button showed in the header even when the discount was zero, and the free-delivery and pickup alerts appeared even when those options were switched off. The reseller wanted it right before demonstrating the store to its customer.
What we did
- Multi-shop display. We fixed the logic that chose which shop name to show, and made a default shop active as soon as the page loads, so customers always start from a valid location.
- Pickup and delivery alerts. We reworked the alerts so the free-delivery and pickup messages appear only when those options are enabled, with free delivery tied to the minimum order value. This built on the minimum-order alert we had added to the same store the year before.
- Cleaner header. The discount button in the header is now hidden when the discount is zero.
- Checkout defaults and fixes. We adjusted checkbox defaults, and fixed a problem where the home-delivery input was rejected, along with a related cart error.
